Norman Rockwell Museum
Our Review
The Norman Rockwell Museum is home to the largest public collection (in the world) of Norman Rockwell’s art. Rockwell’s work is—and has been-—a local sensation, but is also appreciated by many people around the globe. His paintings and illustrations are very realistic and capture a fair amount of American life. This being said, he’s most known for his 323 cover illustrations on The Saturday Evening Post magazine. The museum’s collection is continually growing and even features the works of over 250 artists as well. In addition to the 998 original pieces featured in the museum, Rockwell’s offsite studio was actually cut in half and moved to the property in 1986.
The museum has a good amount of events going on pretty regularly too. These include daily talks, virtual reality experiences, educational art workshops and lessons, biyearly naturalization ceremonies for Berkshire County residents that have immigrated to the area, and more. The museum is a great location for a cultural experience in the Berkshires. There’s also a museum shop filled with books, stationery, signed prints, framed prints, cards, calendars, gifts, and so on. The museum is family-friendly and gives visitors a really interesting look into Norman Rockwell’s life and passions.
Close by to the museum is a wonderful place to visit called Naumkeag. The historic property has a beautiful house, lush gardens, great views, and even an expansive winter lights event throughout the holiday season.
