Dream Away Lodge
On the edge of the largest state forest in Massachusetts lives a larger than life hang out called the Dream Away Lodge. This old farmhouse has a little bit of everything: theatre, restaurant, and music venue, set on a large property with manicured gardens, walking trails, a meditation field, and outdoor fireplace. The decor is as eclectic as it’s colorful history, which is rich in music and local mythology, with the likes of Liberace, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Allen Ginsberg and other beatniks in the 60s passing through.
If these old farmhouse walls could talk! Once a house of ill-repute and speakeasy during prohibition, Dream Away Lodge has kept the party going for almost 200 hundred years. Nestled away on a hilltop in the hills of the October Mountain State Forest. Today it’s still as quirky and colorful as it’s matriarchs Mamma Maria Frasca and her three musical daughters.
The locally sourced menu changes seasonally, but the mac and cheese is a fixture and must be enjoyed at least once. A variety of entertainment can be found at any given evening or time, from spoken word, to poetry slams, local musicians, touring bands, or a serenading drag queen.
Twinkling fairy lights beckon visitors to stroll around the orchard labyrinth and garden paths. An easy drive from Lenox, and located in Becket, Dream Away Lodge is the perfect rendezvous before a show at Jacob's Pillow, or a full evening of entertainment in itself. Experience the perpetual witching hour of Dream Away Lodge, “an atmosphere long remembered.”
