Our Review

Public is a popular spot to grab a drink and a bite to eat in North Adams. It’s right next to MASS MoCA and serves delicious American cuisine (ther grilled Bistro Steak meal is a must try). They offer small plates, large plates, lunch, dinner, desserts, sides, and delicious drinks. All of the food is prepared in-house and is really fresh and flavorful. Better yet, Public serves local food from farms and artisans in the area. Their craft beer program has 11 taps that rotate regularly and more than a dozen choices in bottles. The wine list is just as pleasurable and the cocktails are inventive.

There's a good amount of events taking place at Public, as listed on their events page. Lunch is served on Fridays through Sundays, but dinner is available seven days a week. While walk-ins are the typical way to go, reservations can be placed—but they are only an option for large groups. The restaurant can also host special events upon prior request and planning. The exposed brick, wooden floors, and minimal decor create an industrial vibe that fits in well with the area.

As mentioned, MASS MoCA is just next door to Public. The contemporary art museum is uniquely located in an old factory building and is very expansive. The immersive exhibits are truly amazing, there are events and shows regularly, and a great on site eatery that also serves ice cream. Stepping into the museum feels like leaving the real world and entering the minds of many great artists.
