Our Review
There’s a curious modern building nestled into the picturesque countryside along Route 183 heading toward New Marlborough, Massachusetts—inside you’ll find an oasis of casual fine dining: Cantina 229. Restaurant-baby of Josh & Emily Irwin, showcases a playful nouveau American cuisine and a peerless cocktail menu. The menu, inspired by Josh’s global travels, reimagines world cuisine with local and seasonal ingredients, many coming from their small backyard farm.
From Cantina-raised pork nihari, to smoked eggplant (from their garden) za'atar, and Bao Buns of cauliflower falafel, halal white sauce, funky pickle, Cantina mouthwatering mashups of local-world-fare. The Bi Bim Bap is a crowd favorite and on Taco Tuesday’s you’ll have a hard time finding a seat at the bar— so come early!
Sourcing almost entirely from their farm or the greater New Marlborough region, meals sing with the bounty of the region.
Floor to ceiling windows line the back of the restaurant welcoming the outside, in. Original farmhouse beams cross the high ceilings, wrought iron accents and a fun spiral staircase winds its way up in the middle of the dining room. The dynamic open-air kitchen adds an exciting vibe to the room.
Sip a craft beverage on the beautiful deck. Shaded seating and romantic cafe lights line the perimeter overlooking a yard where kids can run and play. Stroll the garden and enjoy ducks waddling by. Cantina 229 is a thoughtful, exquisitely modern and deliciously rural dining experience unlike any in the area.
