Our Review

The Prairie Whale, located on Great Barrington’s Main Street, is an interesting fusion of Brooklyn and Berkshire dining. It has a rustic aesthetic and savory menu that attracts both locals and those just stopping by in the area. The low-lit, cabinesque decor is really relaxing and homely, but don’t miss out on outdoor seating and activities when the weather is nice. The majority of the cuisine served is local and produce is grown on-site.

Don’t just skim the menu here and pick the first thing that looks good. The options are constantly changing on the menu, so you’ll want to choose carefully. Everything is delicious, and each time you come back, you’ll have more to choose from. The Prairie Whale has some pretty cool philosophies, too. First off, they’re farm-to-table, meaning produce is grown on-site or sourced locally. They’ve also got a nose-to-tail mentality to minimize waste. This is why the menu is ever-evolving. Also, the in-house butcher cuts all the meat fresh.

If you are interested in hiking in the area, before or after your meal, Monument Mountain Reservation is just 9 minutes up the road. The peak is gorgeous and overlooks the Housatonic River Valley.
