Umpachene Falls Rd., New Marlborough

Our Review

Umpachene Falls provides a serene haven for that well-needed break from the hustle and bustle. Ideal for hikers and adventurous folk, this location offers swimming facilities that are not only allowed but actually encouraged. The lazy Konkapot river is safer for the children whilst adults can smoothly wade in the pools of Umpachene Falls. There are chairs and tables in the park for a pre-planned picnic at lunchtime. You will only be able to clearly spot the falls once you are about 300 feet from your vehicle, towards the rear end of the park. Make sure you wear slip-resistant shoes to protect you from a potentially fatal fall on the slippery rocks.

The shade given off by the woods makes this spot a pleasant one when the temperatures are too hot.  It’s also known to be a property of the town & their guests so you might need to make a New Marlborough friend before visiting the Falls. Quick tip, however, you might get lucky if the grounds-keeper is on-site because it’s always an option to ask him politely. A special favorite for visitors is to build balancing rocks, meditate and just doze off to the sound of the water hitting the rocks. The falls are 40 feet tall and very photogenic!

At the entrance to the Falls is Umpachene Falls Park which has a lot of grass to stretch out on and enjoy a quick lunch break. To add to the natural aesthetic is a small pool with clear flowing water. It goes down about 2 feet deep but is wide enough to splash around in with your little ones. You can bring along your float, a bathing suit and some water shoes for the ultimate experience. The nearest restaurant from this location is about 2 miles away whilst the closest hotel is roughly 7 miles away.
